How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on Fresaro starts with one question: will this product fit the space and the way you plan to use it? A heater for a bedroom has different needs from a stove for a large living area, and venting or fuel can limit what works.

Here is how we answer it.

1. We start with the space and the job

A heater sized for a small room may not warm a garage. A chimney cap or stove pipe that does not fit your flue can create installation problems.

We check the intended room or outdoor setting, heat output, fuel type, dimensions, clearances, venting needs and power requirements. For tools, storage gear and replacement parts, we consider the task, compatibility and how the item will be handled.

2. We compare specs and features

We look at the details makers list: heating capacity, fuel use, efficiency where available, materials, measurements, installation requirements and what comes in the box.

Makers describe their products in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note the warranty terms the maker lists and flag when a part or appliance needs professional installation.

3. We look at buyer feedback

We read what buyers report after using a product. We look for patterns, like heaters that fail to warm the stated area, parts that do not fit the listed models, or tools and covers that wear out quickly.

One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.

4. We score each product

Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A pellet stove may suit one guide, while a portable propane heater may suit another.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages up to date

Products change, and some disappear from stores. Makers sell close models under similar names, so we check each model name, compatibility details and what comes in the box, and we only link new units.

We skip unknown brands with no track record and any product with a known recall. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are research, not hands-on tests. We don't claim to have used every product we cover.

We don't replace the appliance manual, local codes or a qualified installer. Follow the maker's instructions and local requirements, especially for fuel-burning appliances, chimneys and venting.
